Entering Gnomon

Hello, I've decided to start this Blog this very day because finally, finally, I can say: yes, I will enter Gnomon. For students interested in this school or in the film/gaming industry, don't hesitate leaving your questions as a comment. I will try to help you as much as I can, because as you know, or will soon discover, studying for this industry requires a lot of information, research, and inside advice from people already in the industry. 


You need to things to get to Gnomon: Talent and Money (as usual)

• Talent & Luck
• You will need to send your portfolio to the school in order to be accepted. Unfortunately, only 24 students are accepted each term, and of all the people that deem themselves worthy to send a portfolio, only 5% - 15% of the students are actually accepted. The submitted portfolio has to be of a TRADITIONAL nature. Thus, no art made in Photoshop or Painter, and no drawings of super heroes, game characters, and such. 

 The complete portfolio that I submitted can be found on the right under "2D portfolio." You will also see some 3d images and some digital art. Maybe it was the simplicity of the photoshop drawings that made it qualify as traditional.

• Money
• Gnomon costs $66,000 USD for the 2 year course. Adding to this room, board, and all costs associated with living, you are looking at spending $2,700 dollars a month (including tuition). This is of course, if you don't leave with your parents in the Los Angeles area (lucky you). So, fill out your FAFSA, apply for federal loans, and take advantage of private loans. Believe me, planning your costs can be the hardest and most stressful part of your education. Regarding friends and/or relatives that are willing to help you, thank them and take the opportunity, and regarding the people that even go against your flow, forget about them and move on. Feelings for now are of no importance. Focus on the path ahead.

Also, there are more details to consider like finding a place to live/rent. Take into consideration ANY opportunity that may arise. Don't like sharing your studio with your roommate? Don't like cooking your own food? Well tough it up buddy. All these sacrifices account for paying a significantly lesser amount of money a month, and thus, being able to get this going.
